Families at swimming hole

Selection Description:
Family Adventure group at swimming hole

Weather permitting, we find the time to enjoy the wild salmon river’s natural swimming pool.  In 2009 and 2010 we made two stops at the swimming hole.  This is a wild river with a rocky bottom and some slippery areas so we always take care.

Titanic Symposium and Family Adventure Hotel

Selection Description:
Family Adventure Hotel

During the Receiving Titanic Travel Symposium and Wildland Tours Family Adventure we stay at the comfortable, four star Delta Hotel in the heart of the city.  Kids love the pool while the parents enjoy the hot tub, sauna, and fitness center.  Many folks consider the Delta to be our finest Newfoundland hotel.
There are dozens of restaurants and pubs nearby.  Dinner theatre and the haunted hike are a 10-minute walk from the hotel and are also on the list of evening possibilities.

Dave Snow, President, Wildland Tours   Every year we are approached by families seeking a fun but planned family vacation. Some years we are lucky and an organization like Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth allows us to share the province with parents and their student-age children.

The Vaults

St. John’s, our host city for the Family Adventure, is famous for its “hide aways” and ghost stories.  The story of these ancient vaults goes back to 16th century pirates.  The television show “Creepy Canada” declared them one of Canada’s most haunted places.

Checking the salmon in the counting trap

Selection Description:
Checking the salmon

In 2009 we not only saw leaping salmon during our Family Adventures but the kids got to help count them as part of an ongoing enhancement project on the largest river on the Avalon Peninsula.  This river is also home to a cool swimming hole!
