Waiting for the cruise guests in St. Anthony

Selection Description:
Waiting for the passengers in St. Anthony

Cruise ships visiting St. Anthony and other Newfoundland and Labrador ports are often met by special community welcome ceremonies.  Here Wildland Tours St. Anthony guide Wayne Hynes channels the Viking spirit of Cole Goldtongue, a trader and a rogue, as he awaits passengers from a Princess cruise ship.

Wildland Tours uses trained and experienced local hosts to show visitors the many amazing sites of northern Newfoundland including the UNESCO World Heritage Site at L’Anse aux Meadows.

L'Anse aux Meadows

Selection Description:
VTE Day 7

We sometimes explore the recreated Norse community of Norstead.  This allows for a better understanding of this European culture which crossed the Atlantic 5 centuries before Columbus.  The Norse used northern Newfoundland as a base for trade and exploration.  Evidence at L’Anse aux Meadows suggests they explored much of Newfoundland and also went as far south as New England.

VTE intro

The historic enactors at Norstead, the recreated Norse Village next to L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site, make history come alive with their interpretation of early Norse life.  L’Anse aux Meadows is a UNESCO  World Heritage Site and one of the highlights on our Viking Trail Experience tour.  (This is a “cool” fall photo.  Our summer guests dress much more lightly.)
