The London publication Dream World Cruise Destinations has listed
the Port of Corner Brook as a “Destination where the quality and
professionalism of guides is considered outstanding.”
Tim Moore, Tours Manager of Fred
Olsen Cruise Lines was one of the senior cruise industry people
nominating the port. “We were thrilled with the Black Watch’s
2005 port call in Corner Brook. Cheers and a well deserved
congratulations to the port and the crew at Wildland Tours.”
Wildland Tours has been hosting
cruise ship visits to Corner Brook since the mid 1990s. The company
designed and hosted guide training workshops which introduced Corner
Brook tour guides to the service expectations of the cruise
industry.
Company President David Snow and
Corner Brook Tour Manager Mark Tsang are both thrilled with the
international recognition. Says Snow, “In 2004, we hosted the
world’s most famous cruise ship — the Queen Mary II — and a
second huge cruise ship — the Aurora — on the same day. In
2005, Wildland Tours hosted the Black Watch, the Silver
Whisper, the Queen Mary, the Sea Princess, and the
Enchantment of the Sea among others. It appears that the
cruise industry has been paying close attention, and that our tour
guides, who are all from the Corner Brook area, have come through
with flying colors. I am sure that the efforts of the volunteers who
put together this port’s impressive welcome also contributed to this
prestigious recognition for Corner Brook.”
Corner Brook joins Barcelona
(Spain), Sydney (Australia) and eleven other ports around the world
in receiving this recognition. No other Canadian port received this
honor. Says Snow, “I would like to extend a heartfelt
congratulations to all the Corner Brook guides and volunteers for
their efforts over the past year… and the past decade. This is a
well deserved honor recognizing your
enthusiasm and commitment to showing the City’s and the province’s
best face to the world.” |
