  • Canoe the Gander River (if you’re experienced) or else take a trip with a Gander River man on a world-famous Gander River boat.
  • Go windsurfing — we have some of the world’s best conditions and most fabulous sites.
  • Try salmon, trout, or char fishing. If it’s good enough for George Bush and Lee Wulfe, it’s good enough for anyone!
  • Stand on the most easterly point of land in North America.
  • Visit some of the world’s most prominent geological spectacles at Gros Morne National Park.
  • View caribou, puffins, gannets, and whales with Wildland Tours.
  • See the only authenticated Viking landfall in North America.
  • View runes said to be left by St. Brendan 200 years before the Vikings.
  • Get screeched in (ask a local what this means)!
  • Catch some of our exciting nightlife. The bands and pubs of George Street in St. John’s draw partiers from New Orleans!
  • Check out the Labrador 400 dogsled race.
  • Check out unique local crafts at some of our great local gift stores.
  • Visit the Exploits Salmon Festival in Grand Falls or watch leaping salmon at Big Falls, Rocky River, or one of a dozen other great salmon rivers.
  • Pick bakeapples, partridgeberries, and blueberries — check them out in local jams, wines, and desserts
  • Find a Newfoundland pony — North America’s only descendent of the Westmoreland horse.
  • Have your picture taken with a Newfoundland dog.
  • Sail around an iceberg while sipping Iceberg Vodka chilled by a bergy bit.
  • Watch a moose — but don’t hit one on our roads!
  • Check out Dorset and Maritime Archaic sites.
  • Travel to Mistaken Point and hike with the local caretakers to see the ancient fossil beds.
  • Explore the Corner Brook Caves.
  • Wander the cliffs and valleys of the East Coast Trail.
  • Check out the local music scene — the most dynamic in Canada.
  • Breathe the freshest air in the world.
  • Enjoy the colours of the Northern Lights — captured in Labradorite.
  • Relax!
