Travel Newfoundland’s Titanic Trail - from Signal Hill to Cape Race - and hear about the exciting days leading up to the Cape Race Receiving Titanic Commemorations on April 14/15. Experience the North Atlantic and the dramatic tales of the Newfoundland coast. Weather and road conditions permitting you will stand on the closest point of land to the Titanic gravesite 350 miles to the SSE and visit the Myrick Interpretation Centre to learn about the transatlantic history of Cape Race; including the reception of Titanic’s distress call on April 14, 1912. Look out from Signal Hill, visit historic fishing villages, and experience the start of the subarctic springtime on this adventure. Your daytrip includes a fabulous lunch featuring iceberg water and local flavours. See Titanic artifacts and hold a piece of iceberg along the way. The officer in charge at Cape Race, Walter Grey was friends and Marconi school chums with Jack Phillips - the Titanic’s senior wireless operator. Before the collision with the iceberg, wireless nessages kept flowing between Titanic and Cape Race. Learn more about Titanic and wireless communications during this scenic day excursion travelling Newfoundland’s Titanic trail. Our stops will include the Interpretation Center at Portugal Cove South and hopefully the famous Myrick Wireless Interpretation Center at Cape Race (weather and roads permitting).
